The International Training Institute (ITI) has awarded a total of 93 scholarships worth K381,300 this year across Papua New Guinea, with 45 of them going to graduates from secondary schools in Port Moresby.
Of the total recipients, 45 students from the National Capital District (NCD) and Central Province proudly received their scholarships during the official presentation ceremony held today, May 20, 2025, at the ITI Badili Campus in Port Moresby.
The event was officiated by ITI Chairman Mr. Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval. According to Mr. Sentheyval, the main purpose of the scholarship program is to support students who cannot afford tuition fees and those who were unable to secure spaces at universities.
Since the inception of the ITI Scholarship Program, over 1,000 scholarships have been awarded in the past 11 years as part of the institution’s commitment to community service.
Mr. Sentheyval noted that ITI has committed a total of K2.6 million worth of scholarships since launching the program in 2012.
“I believe it is important that students are given a second chance at education,” he said.
One of the scholarship recipients, Joseph Mina, a 2024 graduate of Don Bosco Technical Secondary School, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to further his education through ITI’s certificate course.
“On behalf of all my fellow 2025 scholarship recipients, I would like to thank the ITI Chairman, Mr. Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval, for this great initiative,” said Joseph. “This program has given us hope and motivation to continue our education, no matter the challenges.”
Although the current scholarship only covers certificate programs, Mr. Sentheyval shared that ITI is looking forward to expanding the program in the future to include diploma and degree-level scholarships.
