The ACS Diploma of Information
Technology comprises eight compulsory subjects; systems analysis, programming, computer organization,
data management, OO systems development, computer communications, professional practice, and
systems principles.
Assessment is via external examinations offered three times per year
in February, June and October. Examinations may be sat anywhere in the World and candidates may prepare either by attending
a college teaching an appropriate course or by using their own resources.
A candidate may sit a maximum of four examinations at any one offering. Most candidates take twelve to twenty four months to
pass all eight examinations.
To pass an examination a candidates must demonstrate both practical skills AND underpinning
knowledge. The programming examination, for example, requires a candidate both to program in an object oriented language and to
understand the principles of software engineering.
